What you are covered for as an exercise professional

Exercise and fitness professional indemnity and public liability insurance

If you're forced to defend your professional reputation, you'll want the best support behind you.
Our policies include three types of insurance in one designed specifically for exercise professionals combining: professional indemnity insurance, public liability insurance, and product liability insurance.

Professional indemnity

Insurance cover for claims made against you from the work you do as a fitness and active lifestyle professional. For example, a personal trainer failing to properly explain or demonstrate an exercise correctly, which then results in an injury to your client.

Public liability

Insurance cover for injury and property damage that happens to third parties and clients in connection to your business, such as a slip or a fall - either in your premises or away from your premises, such as a park or client’s home.

Product liability

Insurance cover for liability for injury or property damage caused by goods sold or supplied by you. This can include cover for clients getting sick or injured from products you provide for example; protein shakers, resistance bands, or other products.

Exercise Professionals should ensure that the group participant number allows for appropriate supervision of children and safe instruction, including a suitable environment for the participants and their children. Exercise Professionals who provide classes with children present, such as mums and bub classes, do represent a high-risk activity, and all exercise professionals have a duty of care to prevent harm that could reasonably be expected to occur while providing services.

AUSactive, our fitness and active lifestyle association partner, has several documents available for Exercise Professionals to refer to when setting up classes. These documents will assist Exercise Professionals in reducing their risk and exercising their duty of care.
