In 1961, a South Australian hairdresser found herself in a nightmare—one of her customers had slipped in her salon and was threatening to sue. Without public liability insurance, she faced serious financial trouble. When pharmacist Alan A. Russell OBE heard her story, he realised that many small business owners, including hairdressers and barbers, were left exposed to similar risks. Determined to help, he took action, and in 1963, Guild Insurance was born. Today, we continue our mission of protecting hair salons and barbershops with tailored insurance designed to keep businesses covered so you can focus on making your clients look and feel their best.
When you insure with Guild, you can select the covers you need and enjoy a range of benefits. Get the peace of mind that comes with a robust all-in-one insurance package solution. We make it easy to bundle the essential covers for your hair salon or barbershop, ensuring you're fully protected.

Professional Indemnity and public liability provide cover for treatment risk and injuries to others. You can also cover your building, contents, glass, money and business interruption cover on the same policy with Guild.
If you are unsure about what you require, one of our dedicated team can assist you.
Treatment risk is covered by the Professional Indemnity part of the policy. An example would be when someone has an adverse reaction to a treatment you have provided, such as an allergic reaction to a hair dye. Another example could be hair dye or product running into someone’s eyes causing injury, or being cut by scissors.
This is when someone is injured on your property, for example if they slipped on hair and sustained an injury. It also covers damage to third party property, such as your sign blowing over on the pavement and damaging a car, or spilling dye on someone’s jacket.
You will still need to have Professional Indemnity and Public Liability cover if you will be working from your home or other people’s homes.
You can visit RiskHQ at any time to read up about the unique risks you face as an exercise professional. We cover a variety of risk management topics, from managing complaints, to social media risks, maintaining your fitness centre, and much more.
Power outages are unfortunately becoming a somewhat common occurrence in parts of Australia. The threat of heatwaves, and therefore higher than usual demands on power, means that power outages are a real threat to many businesses over summer.
